A lovely set of photos. Brought back a few memories for me as a former driver of a Bedford OB (that was in '56 - '57) for Mr. Harry Paul, owner of Pauls Tours, Ryde I.o.W. An excellent employer, all of his coaches were "show models", usually having been displayed at the Commercial Truck & Bus Show at Earls Court, London. - - It would have been nice if you could have taken photos of the interior of some of the vehicles. I met my future wife while driving the tour bus, we celebrate our golden wedding anniversary later this year. What I would give to be able to pick her up in an OB for our 50th celebration. Congratulations to all participants for keeping these grand vehicles alive.

Wonderful to see LUR is back out on the road. I used to own it back in the 70's, having bought from Manor Coaches at Rangeworthy. Took it to John O'Groats, Lands End and the Isle of Wight amongst other destinations. Unfortunately, circumstances changed and sold it on for continued preservation to Tony Fielding, who also lived in Gloucester at the time. LUR is obviously in good hands if the picture is to be believed. Would dearly like to see her again. Would the owner give their contact details for me.

MUT 255W is seen here working for D Cloaches,Morriston on hire to Clydach Market.I used to catch these free buses occaisionally as a means of seeking bargains, trying out the latest D Coaches DDs and keeping up to date with East End Garage buses which were only a 20 min walk up the riverbank.Blanket services were provided to all parts of the county to and from the Thursday event so it became an ingredient in a favourite day out for me.Mind you, with Leicester Dominators and Atlanteans,Edinburgh,Glasgow and Manchester Atlanteans and LT FLeetlines on offer who could blame me!!Many bargains were bought too, needless to say!!!

I well remember going to school on this one in 1977 when it first appeared and the stir that it caused when it did!!!D Coaches vehicles always had the legend "another D Coach"in the rear illuminated glass, this one though was a D Continental no less and we all thought that we were cheese riding in it.At the time D Coaches school runs were covered by a motley collection of aincient Bristols plus the huge fleet of ex Edinburgh Titans which the company became famous for then.Coaches did appear though and it was always a race to get a ride home in one.Behind the Bedford in this picture is one of the Seddons,BUL 60-4H,OND 737,9,40H,nearing the end of its days by the look!!!They were lovely coaches too, albeit a bit noisier than the Bedfords. The ONDs came from a company called Airlandair,Manchester,by the way and were in a white, blue livery when they first entered service.PTH 813R was later sold on to Waddons,Senghenydd and is probably long gone by now.

I well remember this company even though they ve been gone for years now.32 DRB was an MW ex-East Midland which survived a fire early in the company history.AS I remember, another MW ,260 HNU,Tiger Cubs JBO 104/13,plus an ex-Sheffield United AEC Reliance (OWA 382E I believe) were destroyed in that blaze.4873 DF was a former Black and White Leopard bought in 1980 whilst the Bedford CF visible in the picture would have been BTH 224V,bought new at around the same time. Many more interesting elderly coaches were operated, all nicely turned out too til the company sadly folded after a venture into continental work.

Delighted to find a pic of an old Bedford CA ice cream van, particularly with an italian connection.Tom Domachi and co had their cafe in Pontardulais and Tom and his brother drove their Bedford Ice cream vans throughout the local area.Tom sold everything in his vans, bottles of pop were retrieved out of a locker at the rear of the vehicles.A quarter of wine gums were a favourite treat of ours as children.I remember Tom suddernly stopping comming in the late 80s. We were gutted to learn later that he had suffered a heart attack and that when he had tried to return to work hed found it too much and had to call it a day.I later spotted his brothers van in new ownership in the Milford Haven area.Anyway, even though your pic depicts another company ,thanks for the memory of a local institution!!

A sad end for what was once one of D Coaches front runners.BUL 60-4H were only a few years old when they arrived from Grey-Green in the mid seventies. They joined 12 metre Seddon Viceroys DCY 43/4K which were new to the company and were soon followed by former SELNEC 51 seat plaxtons OND 737/9/40H from Airlandair,Manchester.Added to the few VALs and Reliances plus a few new and late model YRT/Dominants it was an impressive fleet in those days.Anyway, one BUL plus one OND achieved extended lives being converted to caravan/horse transporters by associated company D Coachbuilders. This one,BUL 61H is probably the one that donated its engine to Bedford VAM KWB 521D!!That Plaxton Panorama coach was a long serving fleet member and passed to Lonlas Boys club in Skewen on its retirement c1982.Wonder if its still about anywhere??

I USED TO DRIVE FOR MILLERS A FEW YEARS AGO (1988/89) NORMALLY DROVE C844OBG ON 197 SERVICE THEN WENT ON TO DRIVE THE LYNXES WHEN THEY ARRIVED. I LEFT MILLERS TO MOVE BACK TO SOUTHAMPPTON IT WOULD BE GREAT TO KNOW WHAT SOME OF THE EX MILLERS STAFF ARE UP TO NOW

These two, and the two Blue and Cream examples are all former Darlington Corporation Seddon RU/Pennines. There were eight of them originally, and have Pennine B47D bodywork (WHN461-8M/no's 61-68) It would be interesting to know if any of these still survive.

This and sister 792 came down from an operator in North Wales.Roy Hutchins, one of Waless longest serving PSV drivers used to be a regular on these into the early 80s.He d been a drver with SWT,had his own company and worked for his son John, whod been operating coches from Pontardawe in the early 70s.The company changed livery to match purchased vehicles a few times during the last fifteen years and had a knack of making them look right.Indeed doesn t this look like a Fylde purchase that none of us heard of for some unknown reason.Good though!!

Hi Roy Hutchins Was my Grandad. He worked for many years for my dad (john hutchins) who operated Hutchins coaches of pontardawe in the 70s we had a very modern fleet of coaches, and the first New Duple Dominant in Wales

Taken in a scrapyard long since gone under a housing estate. It was just off Coldham's Lane, Cambridge down a track towards the old Blue Circle Cement 'Norman Works' also long gone. As a teen I could see the roof line of the top deck over the scrapyard corrugated fence but was always fascinated as to what lay behind as it was near impossible to see. Did have an idea it was an old B&D. Now I see more of it after all those years.

NWO 462R not P was a former National Welsh Leyland National which worked on the CIty Connection between Penyrheol and Swansea. That livery was introduced with Seddon/Alexanders NSJ 4/13R and only a splash of white would have been needed to give them budgerigar colours rather than hawkes!!So I thought at the time anyway! The company passed to veolia on retirement of Mr and Mrs Hawkes so thanks for another nice reminder of the way things once were.

I used to drive this one (and sister ship 550) regularly. Light and powerful, they were also warm (which was more than could be said for some of the others). Speed limiters? Tachographs? Not in 1980!

Could this possibly be the ex Northern Fleetline that was until recently dumped in Kirkby Stephen railway station?
[#8795792] 2008-12-30 21:59:42 Left by Mr Chris Hall (#1221052) Reply
This is ETY91L a former Tyneside Daimler Fleetline/ECW. It was retrieved for preservation during 2008, and is now back in the North East awaiting restoration. Tyneside was a subsiduary of Northern General, and this bus is the only survivor of that fleet. It stood at Kirkby Stephen for many years, and was formerly an exhibition unit for Lancashire Council.

Hello John, The photo was taken in Cambridge in the early 1980's. The fuel pipe snapped in front of the rear wheels and as the vehicle rounded the corner the driver lost it and it ended up as you see in the photograph. With regards to ENOC in BS, I don't think I can help you with that one. Kind regards Mr BG
